I found a 5 week old kitten and had no intention to keep him, at first, especially since I already have an 8-year old cranky female cat and a 9 year old lazy male cat, and figured they're perfect little lives would be disrupted by the presence of a crazy baby cat. WELL, I fell in love with the little guy and decided to keep him. Sure enough, my cats weren't thrilled when they saw him. For two reasons, I thought it best to separate the kitten from the cats for a while:(1) Need to get the kitten medically cleared, as I'd found him in the street, and(2) Because he was so tiny, didn't want the big cats to hurt him even if they did get along right away(3) Get the big cats used to the smell of the kitten in the house.I felt bad just putting the kitten in a room and closing the door, so I got this item so that I could see and hear the kitten and the cats could too, so they'd check him out and get used to him. It took several weeks until he was old enough to get his shots and tested for the usual cat diseases, which was just as well, because it took that long for the cats to all get used to each other. By the time the kitten was big enough to start "clearing" this gate (jumping over it!!), I was able to integrate them. SO, if you are introducing a new kitten to your resident cats, most of the time, you can't just throw them all in together (I've heard of a few times where that works - but it's rare). This gate is the perfect tool to introduce cats without them hurting each other.I saw some reviews that complained that the gate wasn't good because the opening had to be exactly in 1/2" increments. That's not true. They didn't fuss with it enough to make it work. You get as close as you can, then you flip down the handle to tighten the gate in its space. Believe me, it works. My house and doors, frames, etc., are not perfect - even a little crooked. That's what made this gate perfect. It'll fit in ANY door space, even if the parts of the door frame differ by an inch or so where the top and bottom of the gate meet the door frame.I am happy to say the cats get along now. My boy cat has accepts the kitten (who is now 4 months old) more than the female, but every day it gets better and better. The boy plays with the kitten and they even groom each other (in the beginning there were spits, growls, swipes, etc.... and he's the NICER cat!). The female cat still doesn't love him, but she tolerates him, and that's fine with me. If my female cat can used to him (she's a real meanie), than any cat integration can work with PATIENCE (I literally had them separated for over a month), LOVE and this GATE, which facilitated safe, controlled cat interactions.

This gate is sturdy and my dog, who has escaped other gates with ease, cannot climb this gate because of how it is contstructed. Definately worth the money

The gate does exactly what we needed it to. When our ferrets learned to climb a normal baby gate, we didn't know how to keep them in the area they were supposed to be in. This gate did the trick. Although it is taller then excepted, making it slightly awkward for short people to cross, it still works great! The ferrets can not climb it, and they can't push it off the door frame. Great product!
